The only online butcher I’ve ordered from is HG Walter, and I’d recommend them. I cooked my way through one delivery in August and September, from burnt ends to a bone-in pork loin. I haven’t ordered from the other seven, so what I say about them comes from their own websites, which I checked in October 2026. I think an online butcher in the UK is worth it: there might not be a good butcher near you, the quality is good and it comes to your door, and you might get a slightly bigger range of cuts.

Best online butcher I’ve used: HG Walter
HG Walter has been going since 1972, from a shop in Barons Court in London, and it delivers fresh across the UK, apart from the Highlands and Islands. It’s £8.50 to deliver an order under £70, the minimum order is £40, and if you order before midday you can have it the next day.

I’ve cooked quite a lot of their meat, all from one delivery in August. The diced chuck became beef chuck burnt ends, the streaky bacon went into bacon jam and candied bacon, the mince went into a chilli, and I cooked the sausages too. I froze the belly and the loin, and in September did pork belly burnt ends and a bone-in pork loin. The meat was good, the service was great, and I’d recommend them.
I paid for all of it myself, but it went through my sister Kate’s trade account rather than their website.
Best for fresh native-breed meat: Swaledale
Swaledale is a whole-carcass butcher in the Yorkshire Dales, working with about 30 farms that keep native breeds. Its meat is always sent fresh, never frozen. Delivery is £3 by DPD, the minimum order is £80, and you can pick your delivery day, including the next day. It delivers to mainland UK.

Best for a regular box: Field & Flower
Field & Flower started on a farm in Somerset and sells free-range and grass-fed meat from British farms, including dry-aged beef and lamb. It sends everything fresh, not frozen, in temperature-controlled boxes. You can order once or have a regular box, and skip or pause it when you want.

Best for grass-fed beef: Edenmoor (formerly Pipers Farm)
Pipers Farm is now Edenmoor, and says it’s the same meat and service. It sells grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range chicken and pork, and offers next-day or named-day delivery on orders before midday, Monday to Thursday. The minimum order is £40.

Best for Wagyu and steak: Tom Hixson of Smithfield
Tom Hixson started as a wholesale butcher at Smithfield in 1963. It sells Wagyu and steak from around the world, including Australian Angus and Argentine beef. Some of it is kept fresh and some frozen, and the page says which. Delivery is free on orders over £150, and if you order by 6pm it arrives in two days.

How meat delivery works in the UK
Meat delivery in the UK comes either chilled or frozen. Swaledale, Field & Flower and HG Walter send it fresh, Grid Iron sends it chilled, Donald Russell freezes everything, and Tom Hixson does some of each. Most have a minimum order, from £40 at HG Walter and Edenmoor to £80 at Swaledale, and several charge less or nothing for delivery once you spend more.
Common questions
What’s the best online butcher in the UK?
HG Walter is the one I’ve used, and I’d recommend them. I haven’t ordered from the other seven here.
Are online butchers worth it?
I think so. There might not be a good butcher near you. The quality is good and it’s delivered to your door, and you might be able to get a slightly bigger range of cuts than your butcher has.
Sources and how I checked

How I got this, and what I’ve spent
I paid for my HG Walter order myself, through my sister Kate’s trade account. Kate holds the account and contributes to this site. Nobody sent me any meat, and nobody at any of these butchers has seen this before you have. None of the links here are affiliate links, so nothing here earns a commission.
Final verdict
If you want to buy BBQ meat online, start with HG Walter. It’s the one I’ve used, the meat was good and the service was great. If you want fresh native-breed meat and you’re spending £80 or more, Swaledale is the one I’d look at next.
